An introduction, please … who are you, where are you, and what pays the bills?
I’m Bartosz and I am a producer/DJ releasing on Growing Bin, Phonica, Rhythm Section and The Very Polish Cut-Outs/Transatlantyk under numerous aliases – Earth Trax, Ptaki duo, Pejzaz.
Where was the mix recorded, and what is the inspiration behind it?
I recorded the mix at home in Zoliborz, Warsaw on a warm, sunny morning.
Strictly vinyl? Strictly digital? Couldn’t care less?
It’s mostly vinyl, but there are some fresh digital promo tracks from labels I’m affiliated with – Into The Light and Growing Bin.
‘Balearic’, seems to be a somewhat overused term these days, but if you had to – and we are asking you to – describe the essence of ‘Balearic’ in one record?
I think it’s Manuel Göttsching’s “E2-E4” for me. Warm and sunny and genre-less. Balearic is about the feeling.
Favourite place you’ve travelled to? And why?
I’m a fan of local trips, obscure castles, countryside, weird tourist places.
Sunset or Sunrise? And the best place to experience it?
Sunrise after a long night. There’s a club on a barge on Vistula river in Warsaw (Barka), already a cult venue here. Thousands of people strolling down the river bank, DJs playing all sorts of weird records, otters swimming in the river, trains crossing a bridge in the distance.
Most embarrassing record(s) you’ve bought? Most expensive? And your best bargain bin finds you’ve digged out over the years?
Played a 7” of “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak at a local bar recently, I don’t find it embarrassing though! Most expensive – Minimal Orchestra private press maybe, for around 60 euros. Best bargain bin – Nyrabakiga’s “Cor Corora” for 10 euros or Peppermint Lounge “Perfect High” which I sold to Josh Cheon from Dark Entries.
Favourite DJ you’ve heard play out over the years?
Rrrkrta, Lutto Lento, Zambon, Jaromir Kaminski, Eltron John, Vladimir Ivkovic, Jamie Tiller, Chee Shimizu.
Anything else we should know about you or what you are up to … and do you have a track listing for the mix you provided?
Hope you’ll enjoy the selection; there is no tracklist!
Thanks to Bartosz for taking the time out to answer these questions.
