An introduction, please … who are you, where are you, and what pays the bills?

After 10 years, 3 EP’s, 3 albums and hundreds of gigs, we’re again 3 guys from northern Portugal that make mostly instrumental music, with a wide range of approaches, from ambient oriented works to dance floor psychadelia, from pop nostalgia to experimental and futuristic landscapes.

Where was the mix recorded, and what is the inspiration behind it?

The mix was recorded in Fornelo, a small town from the county of Vila do Conde, 30 minutes from Porto. Hugo lives there and we have a kind of small studio where we meet to make plans and sometimes songs.

Strictly vinyl? Strictly digital? Couldn’t care less?

We’re no fetishists. As long as the sound is good for us it’s ok! Sometimes it works better in vinyl, but there are a lot of shity vinyl editions with shitty mastering.

‘Balearic’, seems to be a somewhat overused term these days, but if you had to – and we are asking you to – describe the essence of ‘Balearic’ in one record?

Maybe Manuel Gottsching’s E2-E4.

Favourite place you’ve travelled to? And why?

Hard to tell, each one has his favourite place. During our career we were lucky to travel a lot around our country and check out how beautiful it is. Also Spain is an amazing country to cross from one end to the other. We had some excellent experiences in the north of England and in southern Netherlands.

Sunset or Sunrise? And the best place to experience it?

Our latest album was named “Aurora” (portuguese synonym for sunrise), so, easy call 🙂 And if you will, you can experience it in your car, at home with a good hi-fi soundsystem, in your iphone with the proper app or in a pleasant dancefloor.

Most embarrassing record(s) you’ve bought? Most expensive? And your best bargain bin finds you’ve dug out over the years?

We’re pretty much music diggers, and each on of us is a digger in different directions, so, not only hard to tell, but also the result would generate a quite complicated constellation 🙂 Note 1: We recently found a common crush on Dire Straits. Note 2: No such thing as embarrassing records.

Favourite DJ you’ve heard play out over the years?

DJ Harvey, probably.

Who has had the biggest influence on your musical career over the years? And why ?

We can’t say who but certainly we can say what: our career is mainly influenced by the concept of “memory”, by the portugality and by the presence of each other.

Anything else we should know about you or what you are up to in terms of music releases, dj stuff, what underwear you are wearing etc. ?

We’re just starting to work on our next project, which will be simultaneously our 4th album and the original soundtrack of two Manoel de Oliveira’s films. We expect to go through the process with the least underwear as possible.
