Heading to The Regency is always a good idea. It's Brighton's oldest seafood joint, located right on the seafront. Stepping inside feels like entering a time capsule – traditional seaside decor, the smell of freshly fried fish and chips and the catch of the day fill the air.
Our recent visit was prompted by the launch of our Menu capsule collection, and what better setting than The Regency? It's been around since the early 19th century, originally built as a grand seaside residence by Thomas Coutts, the founder of Coutts Bank. He wanted his wife, Harriet, to enjoy her favourite seafood dishes while soaking in the seaside views.
Emilio and Venos Saviides, Owner and son.
Harriet inherited a large fortune with Coutts's passing, becoming the wealthiest woman in Europe. She remarried the Duke of St. Albans, and together, they turned the place into a social hotspot, hosting extravagant parties by the sea. In 1930, it became a restaurant, but it still retains the opulence and elegance of its origins.
The Savvides family took charge in 1963, infusing the restaurant with their own passionate brand of hospitality and culinary expertise. Originally from Cyprus, brothers Emilio and Roberto, run the show, alongside Emilio's sons, Savvas and Venos. They've made Brighton their home and have been committed to preserving The Regency's rich history while adding their own touch.
But the real reason we love The Regency is the food. Their seafood offerings are top-notch, from classic fish and chips to lobster, scallops, and a specials board full of the freshest catches Brighton has to offer. All of these are complimented by unrivaled seaside views through the floor to ceiling glass of its arched facade, each pane adorned with text advertising the menu’s delights to hungry passers-by.
