Washing
- Temperature: Wash linen garments in cool or lukewarm water, ideally at or below 30°C.
- Cycle: Use a gentle cycle to protect the fibers. Hand washing is a safe alternative, particularly for lightweight or delicate linen.
-
Detergent: Opt for eco-friendly, mild detergents. Avoid bleach, as it can weaken the fibers.
Drying
- Air Drying: Hang or lay flat to dry naturally, smoothing the fabric to minimise wrinkles. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can cause fading.
-
Tumble Drying: If necessary, use a low heat setting and remove promptly while still slightly damp to avoid over-drying.
Removing Wrinkles
- Ironing: Iron linen garments while slightly damp on a medium heat setting. Use steam to help smooth stubborn creases.
-
Steaming: A steamer is a gentle and effective option, especially for delicate or structured linen garments.
Stain Removal
- Immediate Action: Blot stains gently with a clean cloth and cold water to prevent setting.
-
Gentle Cleaning: For tougher stains, use a mild detergent or a solution of water and baking soda. Avoid scrubbing, as linen fibers can be prone to abrasion.
Storage
-
Proper Storage: Store linen garments in a cool, dry place. Fold items neatly to avoid hard creases, or hang on padded hangers for woven pieces. Avoid plastic storage, which can trap moisture and lead to mildew.
